Vitor Roque’s agent confirms when he will join Barcelona

The agent of future Barcelona striker Vitor Roque has confirmed the plan remains for the 18-year-old to complete his move in January.

Barcelona struck a deal worth up to £52m to sign Roque during the summer, but there has long been speculation over when he would actually make the move to Catalonia as Barcelona’s salary cap has impacted their ability to sign new players.

However, according to agent Andre Cury, everyone involved is still working towards a January transfer for Roque.

“Our idea, that of the player and that of Barca, is for the player to join in January,” he told RAC1. “With Athletico Paranaense it is also agreed that way. We only contemplate this scenario.”

Despite Cury’s confidence, Barcelona vice-president Eduard Romeu admitted there is still work to be done if Roque is to be registered in January.

“Player registration is a technical issue,” he told L’Esportiu. “We have two windows, one in winter and one in summer, and we make every effort if the technical team asks us to. In two years, we have not failed, and we will do what we have to do to please the technical team.

“I don’t know if [Roque] will come in January. If the technical team tells us that he must be incorporated, we will make the effort as always.

“What is clear is that, for him to join, he must meet Fair Play and for him to meet Fair Play, you can only free up salary or sell a player. Currently, we are not at the 1:1 regulation.”

Cury also offered a positive update on Roque’s fitness. The teenager striker was stretchered off during a game last month and initial reports suggested he could be set for around three months on the sidelines.

“Vitor Roque is recovering very well,” he revealed. “We believe that in four weeks, at most, he can be ready.”
